BILL TO STOP HARASSING PHONE CALLS AFTER YOUR CREDIT IS PULLED

As the Government Affairs Representative for the Arizona Association of Mortgage Professionals, I visited Washington DC to talk to members of Congress and their staff regarding the mortgage issues of the day. On this visit, we were trying to find additional sponsors for H.R. 2656, introduced by Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), which would, among other things, amend the Fair Credit Reporting Act to prohibit the creation and sale of trigger leads. A trigger lead occurs when your credit is pulled. The notification of the credit pull is sold by credit reporting companies to various companies who then contact you and solicit you. I heard of an instance where someone was contacted by 89 different companies as a result of their credit being pulled. We feel this practice creates confusion, and no one needs to know your credit is being pulled besides you and your lender. This Bill will prohibit this practice.

Please contact your legislators and let them know you no longer want to be bothered by these calls. Give them the bill number and ask if they will co-sponsor.

If you are interested in learning more, let me know. In the meantime, if you want to opt out of these calls, go to www.optoutprescreen.com

We are here to help make the mortgage process easier. We work for you, not the lender.
